Common crypto recovery scams and warning signs

How to recognize people who target victims again with guarantees, impersonation, upfront fees or requests for secret credentials.

01

Unexpected recovery contact is a warning

Be cautious when someone contacts you claiming they found your funds or already knows your case. Recovery scammers often target people who have previously reported a loss.

02

Guarantees are not credible

Blockchain records can support documentation and investigation, but they do not create a guaranteed reversal. Claims of certain recovery, secret law-enforcement access or immediate account freezing should be independently verified.

03

Never provide secret credentials

A recovery phrase or private key gives control over a wallet. No legitimate documentation service needs it. Do not install remote-access software or sign an unclear wallet message at someone else’s direction.

04

Verify organizations independently

Find official contact information yourself, search the organization’s name with terms such as complaint or scam, and document all communications. Report suspected fraud to the appropriate service and authorities in your jurisdiction.
